How does the type of industry you are mentoring in (i.e. - Hospital, Financial, Education, Engineering), use social media? For marketing a lot of companies reach out to businesses like Kreber to get help on how to promote and make their business bigger. How does your mentor site/company/organization use social media? Explain and include links to their social media sites on your blog post Kreber uses social media to promote their brand to get more clients and also to help their clients promote their business to their clients. Write about your thoughts/opinions regarding social media: I think using social media professionally is awesome, it really helps you find jobs and helps you promote yourself and the company you’re working for. What are the pros and cons of businesses/professional organizations using social media. Pros
I think social media is cool, you're able to stay connected with old friends or family members that live far away. Social media can make you constantly be on your phone and not see what's going on around you and when you're constantly on your phone you're not able to enjoy things as much. Professionally I think social media is great especially for running a business and being able to talk to your customers through social media. As a high school student, if you could make social media nonexistent, would you support that? Why or why not? I would totally make social media nonexistent, recently i've deleted my social media for about a week and it's really made me think about things differently. I was hanging out with friends and I didnt get on my phone once and I actually got to enjoy my time. Also with family time i've been spending more time with family and it's been really great. October 23, 2018 Today when I got to Kreber Deanne had a quick meeting so she had me look at some of the feedback Club Car gave them on the social media posts Club Car wants to post in the future. After that we just went over it together so she could read it for the first time and I could ask some questions. After that I went down to the studio and spent some time with the people redoing Krebers yearly calendar. It was really cool seeing things that go into making a calendar. Before I left we just reviewed some of the things i've been learning during my time at Kreber to make sure im digesting all of the information. October 24, 2018 Today when I got to Kreber Deanne had a meeting so she had me sit down with Hannah who is a Senior Account Director. Hannah mainly works for Thirty-One Gifts. Today she just showed me a day in the life of her. I just highlighted and organized some papers for her, because she had a meeting with Thirty-One Gifts later that day. After that we just talked about the background of Thirty-One Gifts and how they got started with Kreber. October 25, 2018 Today at Kreber I met with Amanda who is a Lead Creative Director. I was really interested in what she does because I love the creative aspect of marketing and designing. Since Deanne is showing me a lot of Club Car Commercial she thought it would be good to see the creative side of it. Amanda showed me from start to finish what the process is like the toolkits and putting together a format of what they want for the pictures and sometimes videos for the client. Thirty-One Gifts is a client of Kreber.

October 16, 2018 Today I met with Deanne and my primary focus this week was to work on one of my goals. My goal was to learn how to create a successful marketing campaign to help increase sales and how a marketing plan is setup. Deanne has many account, but one of her largest accounts is Club Car. She has gone through several powerpoint presentations that show me the steps she’s put together to present them with the best plan for their company. She has also shown me the step by step plan to accomplish and deliver the strategy. October 17, 2018 Today when I got to Kreber I sat in a meeting with both Deanne and Melissa, they were with a few other Kreber employees talking about Club Cars social media. After the meeting Deanne had me sit in a conference room to read over a powerpoint of content framework for club car. The powerpoint outlined objectives, goals, plan of attack, competitors and takeaways for next steps. October 18, 2018 Today I met with Melissa, Deanne had a private meeting today that I wasn't able to attend. Melissa and some other Kreber employees have been working on redoing the Kreber website. Earlier in my mentoring experience I got to help out on some of the photos they wanted to include. Melissa walked me through the process of redoing the website and had shown me some cool things that go into making a website because it's not all about the looks. After that I got to sit in on a meeting/call with other Kreber employees from the other regional locations. They gave back some tips and what to fix on the website because they hope to launch it first week of November. I’m excited because I will get to still be there for the launch. October 9, 2018 Today I met with Melissa and she went more in depth with what she does at Kreber. She is responsible for several things, but one thing she taught me today was the messaging platform. They way she explained all the messaging that went into marketing was by showing me the powerpoints she presented to the client, Hon. Hon is a furniture store that only sells to businesses. Hon launches new sets of furniture approx every 3 months and that just isn't working for them so they needed help solving that problem. This is why they reached out to Kreber. Melissa and her team interviewed people with little experience, lots of experience and small business owners for what they thought about Hon’s new launch of furniture to get feedback. They gave Kreber feedback and had to figure out ways to solve the problem of why that launch was doing so poorly. Melissa helped me understand it very well by comparing this with my favorite company and that really helped me understand it a lot. After that Melissa and I went to the photoshoot set and she asked if she could take some candids of me on set looking at their props. She will use this for their social media. I provided a quote about what it was like mentoring at Kreber and what I liked best about it. I can’t wait to see what it turns out to be like. October 10, 2018 Today I met with Kevin, he works with the technology team. Deanne had showed me some of the emails that they make for companies to promote themselves and she thought it would be good for me to sit down with the people that actually design them. Kevin taught me a lot of things that go into what you see on stores websites, emails they send you and many more. There is a lot of psychology that goes behind all this work. Things like what pleases the consumers eyes and what doesn't. A funny thing I learned today was that website words and pictures kind of go in a Z formation where you read left to right then low left to low right. Another cool thing is you don't want your website full of stuff for it to look messy, and also don't want a lot of colors. Lululemon https://shop.lululemon.com is a good brand to show both of these examples, it shows the Z formation and also shows the website clean. Tomorrow Melissa and Deanne will be out of the office so I’ll be spending time with Taylor and learn about her role. October 11, 2018 Today I met with Taylor and Christi. Taylor works with the company Bed Bath & Beyond for Kreber. She talked me through the process of what she does, and the final product she showed me were the catalogs for Bed Bath & Beyond. First she sees what Bed Bath & Beyond wants in their catalogs, and then she looks for inspiration on sites like pinterest for colors, props and the aesthetic etc. She then draws on her big ipad what she would like the set to look like. Here she goes more in depth calling out the dimensions of the walls and the size and colors of what she needs for the final photoshoot. Christi is on the design team, I think this is a part of marketing I would love to go more in depth in because I found it very interesting. Some of the projects she has worked on recently is the Bed Bath & Beyond website headers and also some of the pictures that come up on kiosks at Bed Bath & Beyond. Christi just finished up a holiday catalog for a company, she showed me some tips on how to make sure all the products go good together so the pictures and the entire catalog is clean and flows well together. Here is also a tweet Kreber shared about me with my experience at Kreber. October 2, 2018 Today when I got to Kreber I talked with Deanne about what my week would be like. Deanne also helped me with some of the questions for the “Company research-business” assignment for the class, she didn't know all the answers, so tomorrow i'll be meeting with Jim Kreber and he will help me finish the questions for that paper. Once I have those answers, I will be writing a summary about the company history. Today Deanne, had me go in my own meeting office so I could work independently and review several powerpoints. These powerpoints provided examples of what they show clients and how they get all their thoughts together. Deanne and I spend a lot of time reviewing power points that show all the information that is needed to present to clients, however today I got to sit in an office and read it myself so I could digest it more while she was getting some other work done. While I was doing that I took sometime to take notes so it would help me understand better. Some of my notes consisted of the push and pull factors of marketing. Push as in “promoting your products” and pushing them out to people (dealers > customers). The push aspect is establishing a loyal following to draw people to the products (dealers/products < consumers). After that I just asked Deanne a few questions because there were some slides I didn't quite understand. She is very helpful . Deanne and some of the other employees are working on a 3d video project for Club Car and today I got to shadow Deanne while she got everything organized because on Friday there was miscommunication throughout the team. Tomorrow I'll be sitting down with Melissa and she will go more in depth with what she does to take part in all the same work that I learned today. October 3, 2018 Today when I got to Kreber, Deanne and Melissa both had meetings to attend during the time I was mentoring so they set me up with photoshoot team. Kreber is doing a photoshoot all this week and into next week for the company Big Lots. Since one of my learning goals included a photoshoot, I was happy I was able to participate in this. As part of the photoshoot, I would help get all the props together to make the shot complete and also to make the picture look pleasing to the eye. Some of the items being photographed included bed sheets and bedding that Big Lots is going to be selling. A bed was made showing the sheet patterns and colors. Since there are multiple photoshoots going on at once in the facility, it is always important to the team to get their shots done as fast as they can. I was also able to observe the lighting needs on different sets and how everything is setup different for all photoshoots and unique to the clients needs. In addition, I met and had a brief meeting with Jim Kreber which is the owner of Kreber because it's a family owned business. Since I didn't know all of the answers to the Company Research Business paper and I couldn't find some answers when I was doing my research, I thought I would ask the Owner Jim Kreber. We sat down for 10 min and he just helped me understand the background of Kreber and how they have grown into what they are today, which was really helpful. Today when I was leaving Deanne walked me out and showed me their therapy dog. It is an employees dog and she brings in a few dogs just to make the atmosphere at Kreber happy. If someone is having a bad day it cheers people up a little. Tomorrow I plan to sit down with Melissa and learn more about the creative and messaging side of Kreber. October 4, 2018 Today when I got to Kreber I met with Deanne. I couldn't meet with Melissa like we originally wanted because she was out of the office and working from home today. Deanne had somethings she had to get done so I split my time by learning what she was doing and also spent some time on set. The photoshoots that were going on today was another Big Lots photoshoot. They were continuing on with the bedding/linens set. They brought in a live cat to use in the shot. The cat was positioned on the bed. The cat was a big white fluffy cat and it was doing a good job being attentive for the camera. An employee brought in the cat for the shoot. This was fun to see. Afterwards, when I was sitting with Deanne she had to finish up some of her work which consisted of the budgeting aspect of a campaign. She shared with me a spreadsheet that listed the amount of hours and cost associated with each task for the campaign. This rolled up to a total spend for the project. This was for Club Car www.clubcar.com/us/en/home.html, which is one of her biggest projects. Club Car is a golf cart company. See attached link. It was interesting to me to see the amount of detail that goes into all aspects involving a client. |
