MENTOR SUMMARY
My Mentor is Deanne Staley, she is an Account Director at Kreber Marketing Agency & Photography Studio. Kerber has evolved over the years starting out as marketing production and now Kreber is a marketing agency and is unique because they have a studio in their building. Deanne initially wanted to major in finance and/or graphic design, she married her high school sweetheart so took a break from college and when she went back she got her degree in marketing. Deanne also shared with me some of the qualities, skills and abilities you need to have to be in the marketing field. Organization, time management and being flexible are all important, because you never know what a client will throw at you. Being honest is the best policy, when dealing with a client and also having a good relationship with clients. Some of the main responsibilities of being an Account Director like Deanne is making sure you meet the clients needs, always looking for growth and growing vertically and making sure the account is profitable.
Your degree is what gets you a job, so Deanne shared with me some of the degrees Kreber employees have and what degrees she thinks work best with being in the marketing field. Having a marketing degree is the best degree you can have because a marketing degree is broad and shows you everything instead of just specializing in one area. Also having an advertising, communications degrees is good for the marketing field. Marketing is one of the most competitive fields out there and especially marketing agencies in the Columbus area because there aren’t a lot of agencies. At the end of our talk she gave me some advice. The best advice she could give is to have both the clients side in mind with marketing and the agency side with experience, which is what Kreber does. Deanne is an amazing mentor and has taught me a lot about every aspect in the marketing field.
